So, I woke up at 3:30 AM last night and couldn’t get back to sleep. One good thing about my recent bouts of insomnia, they’ve been great for my creativity! I decided to try something I’ve been interested in doing for awhile now – digital painting. I’ve always loved the look of photos edited with textures and filters in a “painterly” style, but I wanted to take it further and have more control over the brush strokes. I used the smudge tool in photoshop and hand “painted” every stroke of this portrait. I’m pretty sure I have carpal tunnel syndrome now, but that pen tablet finally made itself useful and I am really delighted with how this turned out. I think I’m going to be doing a lot more of these, just as soon as I regain movement in my right hand.
I can’t believe Juliette STILL hasn’t been adopted. She was one of the first dogs I photographed for Speaking of Dogs, back in the summer. She is absolutely adorable, but requires eye medication that can be costly. We did some updated photos for her, since she looks much better now.
Sparky seems like a very normal, “full of beans” pup. He listens and calms down really well and is friendly and good natured.
Everyone warned us that Easton would be hard to get a good shot of, but we thought he was pretty great! He didn’t have the longest attention span I’ve ever encountered in a dog, but he was willing to try and actually did some great posing (in between bursts of exploring the room)!
You can find more info on all of these dogs on the Speaking of Dogs website.
Ok, one of these days, I’m really, really going to start writing actual posts about stuff! In the meantime, here are some more rescue dogs, available through Speaking of Dogs.
This snowy owl was picked up injured by Toronto Animal Services and taken to Toronto Wildlife Centre for rehabilitation and release. I snapped a quick shot of him in the back of the truck with my iPhone and then did some “magic” on it Last update on him was that he was being re-acclimatized to the weather outside in preperation for release.
I had a little fun with the rescue dog pics this week and I love how they turned out! As always, you can check the Speaking of Dogs website to see who’s still available.
We had a BLAST taking Halloween portraits at the Speaking of Dogs Howlloween event yesterday. Here are a few of the rescue dogs awaiting foster at Petopia (in case I haven’t mentioned it, Petopia is an awesome doggy daycare centre in east Toronto that always reserves a few spaces for rescue dogs who are waiting for foster placements to become available). I hope to start rolling out the pet portraits that we took to raise donations over the next couple of days. Here’s a sneak peak, for now!
We got to meet a lovely bunch of dogs today at Petopia, an awesome doggy daycare centre that generously provides a temporary home for the dogs that are awaiting foster placement with Speaking of dogs rescue. This cutie was my favourite – what a face!
No sooner had we decided that we would begin fostering for Speaking of Dogs rescue than this little guy popped up on their website and we realized that what we in fact wanted was a second dog. We absolutely adore him and can’t believe how quickly and easily has fit into our home. Even Becca doesn’t hate him!
